Hellfire High Council Defeated! [4/13M]
09/21/2015 08:34 PM by Cornholio.

I am happy to report that Church of RNG has finally defeated Mythic Hellfire High Council in Hellfire Citadel. Blizzard has an unwritten or at least unpublished rule: every large raid instance needs to have at least one council boss. Hellfire High Council was a pretty decent boss. The fight does not feature too many mechanics or timers that require perfect attention like other bosses do. By no means is this boss a tank and spank either. The one glaring aspect about this compared to a lot of other fights is the personal responsibility required of every player. Reap can wreck your raid pretty quickly and it is not an ability that can just be carried. Every person needs to know how to handle reap and be ready to move before time runs out. There definitely were attempts where people just tunneled through the timer, dropping the reap zone on the floor below our raid stack, wiping us and there were times when everyone successfully ran out with their reap ability only to converge on another location near a wall and kill a small group of people. Reaps definitely got cleaner as we moved along though and that is encouraging. Similar to a fight such as Hanz and Franz, our guildees showed that the unforgiving personal responsibility mechanics CAN be overcome.

From my end, tanking Dia was fun and enjoyable. It was a delightful change to be able to actually use Spell Reflect to counter a boss' ability. Tanking that mob specifically required a lot of attention, proper rage management and cooldown usage. This is definitely a fight that I look forward to from now on. We got a taste of what Kilrogg Deadeye has to offer and I truly believe that I'll be back reporting a new kill on him soon...before our 3-shot kill of Gorefiend. (just watch us, you non-believers.)

We are always looking to improve our roster to fight harder bosses. If you think you are an excellent player that can contribute, please let one of the officers know.

Happy Raiding!

Welcome to Mal'Ganis and Happy Birthday! [3/13M]
08/28/2015 03:38 PM by Cornholio.

Church of RNG began a new chapter very recently. A lot of reasoning and decision went into our move to Mal'Ganis. I am writing this post as the original purchaser of the Church of RNG guild charter on Cho'gall exactly six years ago today. Any one of our members could type the command /guildinfo and see this:

For very nearly six years we called Cho'gall home, going through thick and thin. Unfortunately for reasons out of our control, the thin was persisting on Cho'gall-connected. After a couple select guilds ended their time on Cho'gall either through transfers or disbandings, the raiding population had been pretty barren. Gone was the time when 4am Wednesday morning would still feature some sort of population in the expansion's major city. The lack of active players leads to a multitude of problem, none of which I really want to list here. As we recognized this issue and contemplated methods of remedy, we unanimously agreed to seek out a new home. Quickly, we determined that Mal'ganis was our destination. And now here we are, boasting two new kills in mythic content, two that would have put us as server 2nd back on Cho'gall.

Iron Reaver and Kormrok were our 2nd and 3rd kills respectively. Both are rather simple fights, not too much more required of players beyond higher damage and healing requirements. These two fights really solidify us as a mythic guild now, making our Mal'ganis future ever brighter.

As always, we are looking for excellent players to progress with us through mythic content. If you feel that you are an excellent player, please reach out to myself, Thehawks, Gameshard, Artefact, or Boomkin.

Happy Raiding!

Church of RNG Update: The "Corn, can you please finally update the website?!" Edition [11/13]
07/15/2015 07:11 PM by Cornholio.

So… it happened. It finally happened. We got quints.

After MONTHS of a guild effort, quints were gotten. Words cannot express this event. We have been trying: rolling, and rolling, and rolling, and rolling, and rolling. Through all of the mythic attempts in Blackrock Foundry, through countless ogre deaths in Highmaul, in the MIDDLE of combat on progression, everything has led up to this day. At one point I was convinced that Blizzard hard turned quints off. Sure, it’s about a 0.01% chance of getting a quint, but we had a team of people, some with macros, some of us mastering the art of [Alt] + [Up Arrow] + [Enter] + [Enter]. And of all of the quints that we got, it was 77777. I speak for the entire council, all core raiders, all raiders, all trials, all 3/5s out there when I say, I am extremely proud right now. We have gotten a very long way and are future is looking ever brighter. Great job, Boomkin.

On a related note, one of the many items of update for this post today is that Boomkin has joined the council group! Darmar has unfortunately had to go AFK recently due to a combination of intensified work and being partially eaten by peepers. We look forward to his return, but in the mean time we were delighted that Boomkin was willing to join us. One of the strongest raiders that Church of RNG has ever boasted, Boomkin (aka Other James) plays multiple characters at a very high level. He does not miss raids, his overall knowledge of the game rivals most, and his maturity is suited quite well for an officer role. Welcome to the council team.

Many other events have happened since the last update. We killed 26 new versions of bosses, our fearless leader said “I do,” we had a guild get-together, and a new major patch was applied to Warlords of Draenor.

The picture above is of our most recent kill, Tyrant Velhari. We have killed eleven of the thirteen bosses available on heroic difficulty in Hellfire Citadel. Of the heroic bosses, we still have Mannaroth, and Archimonde remaining. So far, our initial thoughts are… this instance is very green. There are definitely some fun fights in here. I keep hearing positive reviews from guildees about Gorfiend and Shadow-Lord Iskar. The only complaints so far are with trashboss… er… Hellfire Assault. We’re getting really close to gong full time mythic and have a few other bosses to clean up on various difficulties, but so far so good.

Some of our other news is quite unique. As I mentioned earlier, our fearless leader, Hungraa put on a ring. On behalf of the entire guild, we want to wish the couple congratulations, good luck, superb health, and a life of unlimited happiness together. While he was on his honeymoon, several long time Church of RNG members met up. A group of us have known each other for about seven years, playing WoW, Starcraft, Terraria, Hon, LoL, Dota, Aion, and several others. This was a long time coming and we had a lot of fun for all of the guys that came out to Chicago.
Church of RNG is stronger than ever and as always, we are recruiting. We are always looking for any player that can prove their worth regardless of class, role, or gear. Message a council in game for more information about our guild.

Happy Raiding!

Mythic Kromog [6/10M]
05/21/2015 02:39 PM by Cornholio.

Wonderful job to everyone. Mythic Kromog went down last night. The fight was not easy. We put in many attempts over several weeks, but saw major strides last night. The pillar phase was no joke of a dps check on this fight. The first few weeks we were having trouble getting all 3 pillars down on the first round, but last night something clicked and we rarely missed a pillar. It was quite exciting being able to push these pillars with a few seconds to spare most attempts as we all knew that the boss would be dying very soon. On our kill, we did have a 3rd pillar phase come up. Our fearless leader, Mang, called for "All damage boss!" and we killed him JUST as he was exploding. It really could not have been any closer of a kill.

This boss kill now puts us with less than half of mythic Blackrock Foundry remaining. The new patch (6.2) featuring tier 18 will be live in a few weeks making this crunch time for us to get in those last kills. Great job all around, keep it going! Next up: Mythic Trains! I hear that this is supposed to be one of the most fun bosses on which to progress. A few people were even asking to go straight to trains instead of Kromog. We're all aboard for that boss now!

As always, we are recruiting. At the moment our highest needs would be for a death knight and maybe a rogue or dps warrior. We would also consider other players of classes not listed here that can provide immaculate logs.

Happy Raiding

Mythic Hanz+Franz and Flamebender [5/10M]
05/02/2015 04:46 PM by Cornholio.

Last week ended with us getting stamped like crazy by Hanz and Franz. This week started with us getting stamped like crazy by Hanz and Franz. That ended quickly when we learned that we were smarter than the average ape and got our slow, crippled snail-selves out of stampers and killed that dynamic duo. Overall, it was a very fun fight. There was little RNG and could be mostly predicted. It feels pretty good to know that our guild can move out of or into 'fire'.

We had about an hour and a half left in our raid week and had already killed one new boss in HanzFranz. Next on our chopping block was Flambender Ka'graz. We had all heard rumors about this fight being the easiest in Blackrock Foundry, but did not think it was going to be like this. We first pulled Mythic Flamebender at 10:46pm CST and walked away with a kill at 11:20pm... The fight did not feel much different. We had to make a minor change or two and coordinate cooldowns for it to be a kill. This boss was a joke. It probably should have been accessible at this difficulty as the first boss, definitely not as one that drops tier. Regardless, a new mythic kill in only 6 total attempts does show how strong of a roster we have at the moment.

On that note, our recruitment needs have altered slightly. At the moment, our biggest needs are mage, shadow priest (with disc off-spec), and death knight. But do not let that discourage you from applying. Please feel free to register and fill out an application. As always, we are looking for great players. Come kill the second half of BRF with us as we wait for Hellfire Citadel to be released in 6.2. Happy Raiding!
